A Short Guide To Hiring A Content Writer That Fits

Quality content writers can be hard to find. This isn’t for the lack of applicants, college graduates, or people claiming that they can write on sites like Upwork, Freelancer, or any of the other dozens of freelancer sites, we all have to start somewhere. I’m sure that most of those individuals can in fact write. It’s more than just the ability to put word after word in a way that pleases the eye, or at least has a period at the end of it with some sort of coherence to it. It’s about finding one that fits with your organization and with that in mind here are some things to consider when you begin your search.

Criteria

Do They Have a Voice

The writer should be able to write with a distinct voice. It makes it easier to incorporate the information they are presenting in a way that appeals to the reader when they have a distinct voice and pattern in the way they write. Being able to match up a writer’s distinct tone with your businesses in a way that not only informs the reader but keeps them coming back for more and more is essential. If you are in content marketing you understand this, the dedicated readership, aka traffic, is kind of a huge indicator of success. Well, based off of your contract with a reliable firm at least.

Willingness to Learn

Okay this seems pretty basic doesn’t it? That’s why you should never settle for anything less. If they claim to be a writer they should be constantly reading as is, it’s sort of a part of the deal. Or at least lamenting that they aren’t reading enough is also acceptable. Depending on what you do, whether you are in a niche market or cover a broad range of subjects they better be able to learn everything and more. You should be able to give them topics ranging from HVAC to politics to VoIP, and they should be able to research it and, maybe more importantly, know where to research it. If they consider this a reliable source for a serious piece you might need to move onto the next applicant.

Experience

This might be the bane of recent college graduates who are on recently on the job market but it helps. Quite a bit actually. Here’s something that might give you job seekers trying to find what hiring managers are looking some consolance. Experience doesn’t always mean years and years at an agency. That might sound crazy to some people but consider this, freelancers can write up to 40 articles a week for various companies while people at an agency might be only subjected to one niche and do half that amount of work. This isn’t discrediting the agency writer’s experience either, this is meant as a frame of reference and motivation for those who are pushing a lot of content out but might not have the 3 years minimum for a lot of companies requirements.

It also means for those at an agency to keep an open mind. While one candidate has three years of experience at a firm, does it translate to your niche? Does it serve your purpose and help your organization? Keeping an open mind might help ease the process.

Remember, it’s what’s most important to your organization and who would know better than you? These are just places to start and maybe offer a dialogue with you and your team for the writer that will fit.

Put Them To The Test

So you found a handful of people who claim they have what it takes for your organization. Now you can put them through the ringer. There are a few helpful things that you can do to move along.

  • You could have them write a mockup article to demonstrate not only that they have a voice but they can get to the heart of an issue and present what is necessary.
  • Have them direct you to published material. After all, is one article ever enough to fully judge a person’s ability? Maybe, but just to be safe you can see if they have a personal blog or published links to look at the topics they’ve covered and if they are consistent from article to article.

Local SEO and You

The ability to find any kind of business in a small area is a simple Google search away. Whether it be within 5 miles to 25 miles a business will pop up for mostly anyones needs. This is where your business comes into play, because if you aren’t one of those businesses popping up in the search than you are losing business. It’s that simple. So this is a list for you to see why you should care about local search engine optimization and how it affects your business.

1. Search Engine Savvy

Google has recently implemented a program called local intent. Which positions local companies prominently for search results. For instance when someone types in pizza it is usually meant for someone looking for a local pizza shop not someone looking up the definition of pizza. Even though that is fascinating and all, Google knows differently then it used to. So if you are a local pizza shop you should consider getting SEO optimized in order to be high on the search results whenever pizza is searched in your area. Using keywords that represent your business will help the process of getting people to your store.

2. Smart Phones and Local Search

Smart phone give the ability for the user to search anything at their fingertips, whenever, wherever. This seems obvious but when it comes to searching for local businesses, mobile phones dominate the searches. And you need to understand this. It can make or break you as a local business when you don’t appear on search engines. How can you optimize for you local business on mobile? First and foremost you need to put up a name, address, and phone number. Putting up this tiny amount of information gives some presence on the internet and will at least give you visibility for those out and about to consider.

3. Competitors

You may not be up on the most recent trends in internet searches, but you can guarantee your competitors are. While you may have an established local business with great word of mouth and a reputation, your competitor may be a new upstart that somehow is stealing your business away from you. Do you know why? Because they have taken advantage of SEO and use the web to their advantage they’re the new kid on the block. If you want to stay ahead of the competition you should combine all of the classic methods of advertising and the power of SEO.

4. Online Reviews.

Online reviews are very important and work on a couple different levels for local businesses. For one, local businesses can lose a lot of customers if a few people give them a bad review. If out of 5 stars you have a 2.5 how likely do you think someone will go to you with their business if there are numerous others in better standing than you? Having satisfied customers leave reviews will encourage people to try out your business and they generally trust positive reviews when taking a new chance with a business. But it also impacts how you will be brought up on Google. Companies that have more reviews will gain higher search rankings than ones without them. Which if you haven’t realized by now, is huge. So if you provide great service and believe people trust that, ask them to review your business to help out.

When going through the process it might be confusing at first and don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you are a local business that needs a boost there are companies willing to help and have a wide range of expertise to help facilitate this, and now is your chance to check out how efficient local searches are. Just type in Bucks Digital and you get a plethora of options and different services that can help you with the process. Local SEO companies like Bucks digital will be able to boost your search rankings and give you a successful marketing campaign. When it comes to your business, can you afford to miss out on the unlimited potential of SEO?

Businesses and Tax Season

Owning a business, whether large or small, can be a very rewarding endeavor but it can also be very stressful. One of these stresses will probably result from taxes at some point in the year. This is however one of the things that you have to be able to handle when owning and operating a business. So instead of dreading it you should take the time to educate yourself and prepare for it, since it will come every year no matter what. And if you gain an understanding and knowledge of what you need to do it will free up time for you to focus on the other aspects of your business that help it grow.

Following this list will help you minimize the amount of stress and hopefully provide some sage advice to follow in preparation for the tax season.

1. Get started!

Last year you might have found yourself a little flustered, overwhelmed, or confused. If you get started as early as possible you can make time commitments everyday instead of cramming all of your tax preparation, organization, and filing all in one day or one weekend. This tip can save you from being stressed out which inevitably leads to mistakes.

2.Get organized!

Do you know where the receipt is from June 12th? How about August 10th? If you have to go rifling through a box of receipts and business transactions from the entire year you might find a few are missing or lost. This is why shoeboxes, bins, and physical storage systems are not the best way to keep receipts. While it is smart to keep physical backups of your expenses and bills an electronic organization system is theist way to access files quickly and efficiently.

3. Use an accountant

Accountant are experts in their field, their very complicated and confusing field. Using an advisor will help you plan properly and be able to guide you throughout the tax season. This doesn’t have to start with the weeks or months before tax season, it can be an all year round partnership. This way you can have someone who will give you advice if you ever find yourself in trouble or unsure of a transaction and how it affects your business.

4. File taxes online

This is where using an accountant helps. For small business owners the taxes that come with that title can be very confusing. If you file online, which in some states it’s the law, you can use their knowledge of tax requirements for small businesses and what exactly needs to be filed online without any oversights.

5. Don’t be late

Make sure that you do not miss the deadline for filing taxes. Preparing and organization will help you out here as you gear up to turn in taxes. If for some reason you forget to turn them in or you are not prepared enough to turn them in you can face some serious penalties from them IRS. This step is a culmination of everything we’ve covered and will be easier if you follow the steps.

As it was my first run in with SEO as someone who was attempting to benefit from it. I found ways that garnered consistent views, clicks, and purchases. While they were modest they were nevertheless successful.

The second stream was/is in freelance writing. Clients will give me a list of requirements and I then implement them as well as use my knowledge to improve them. And I like to think I have been successful with that as a consistent stream of clients means something, right?

Port Wine

What is Port wine?

Port wine originated in, surprise, Portugal! This is because the British needed to have their wine fix way back when they were at war with the reigning wine champs, France. One of those many times that happened… So they had to figure out how to find delicious wine without negotiating with France. This is how Port wine came out of the debacle. Because Portugal, specifically from the Duoro region facilitated the need. But it would spoil on trips back. Well to ensure that the wine would remain drinkable when it arrived from Portugal they decided to fortify it. So by adding brandy or some type of spirit to the process of making it ensured the survival of that sweet sweet wine. And it is sweet, it is one of the hallmarks of Port wine.

In fact, Port wine is served best with desert because of the very fact of how deliciously sweet it is. This is because of the rich and sweet flavor profile it has that includes flavors like raspberry, chocolate, cinnamon, and blackberry among other sweeter flavors. As you can see the delightfully sweet wine is perfect for something sweet to sip on that isn’t overpowering.

Varieties of Port Wine

There are a few distinct styles of Port wine that will be helpful to know when you go about discovering which one you might like better. There is the ruby Port wine which has more berry and chocolate flavors to it while the tawny port is of caramel and nut flavors. A White port which has flavors of apricot, baked apple, and roasted nuts. And finally there is a Rose Port which consists of flavors of strawberry, caramel, and cranberry. While these four are not the only kinds of Port wine you’ll most likely run into these types in stores the most. The wide variety of flavors is only one great part of the wine. The pairings with food is the other slice of the pie. Because what desert ends with just a drink?

Snacks

If you prefer to have something to snack on while you eat, try out some richly flavored cheese, salty and smoky nuts, or even smokey meat. And an all time favorite…chocolate. That’s right you can pair you favorite chocolate truffle with this, just watch out as it might set you over the top. These pairings will prove to satisfy both your taste buds and any friends and family that you decide to share this with.

America’s Port-style wine

While to be technically called Port wine it has to originate from the Douro region of Portugal, there are Port-style wines from our very own US of A that can compete with Ports from overseas. A few wineries that are creating delicious ports are Quady Winery, Meyer Family Cellars, and Charbray. All are bring their A game and making sure America has something to offer in the Port wine department.

So no matter what you decide, whether it’s a ruby, white or a Rose you will be able to satisfy those sweet cravings while enjoying one of the higher percentage wines. So let’s go over this, you get numerous choices of a wide range of flavors and you can pair it up with chocolate for an after dinner snack? Should we order you one bottle or two?

Vehicle Tracking Software

*written for another website, given permission to publish it.*

What is it?

Vehicle tracking software has been around for a while, albeit in a way different form than it is today. The most popular example that people will know is LoJack, which helped to find stolen cars and was mainly used by police. But the software has since evolved into something much much more complex and therefore informative to the user. On all accounts it will be able to digitize and synthesize a wealth of knowledge that can help improve cost efficiency.

Let’s go into the minutiae of the software and then we can get into how it will help your business and what it costs.

What does it do and why should you care?

Vehicle tracking software, also known as GPS fleet tracking, gives you a deep connection to vehicles in your fleet. At any given time you can check on ay number of statuses within your vehicles. You should care because of the immense amount of insight into even the smallest details of your business.

It can provide monitoring of vehicles and assets, which gives you access to the vehicle and whatever is in it, whenever, meaning information 24/7 if need be. This type of monitoring provides an employer the insight into whether or not a package was delivered and if a route is on time. Giving you the ability to see when packages are delivered helps to take out the worry of late packages or even not being delivered at all. This provides information about the interaction of your company with the customer which let’s you know if they were absolutely delivered or not in case of a claim made by the customer. Essentially acting as a safeguard in the process.

Tracking software will be able to reduce fuel consumption and waste. It helps to reduce fuel consumption in a couple different ways. One way is rerouting to find the quickest route, it also has the ability to track idle times that could be affecting overall consumption and waste. And then it can help to cut it out by advising the drivers on better driving practices to avoid traffic and idling.

A classic trait of these systems is the ability to track the vehicle in case of theft. As soon as the vehicle leaves a specific area you can track it and the driver to ensure they are still in control of the vehicle and if not, you know exactly where it is going.

The software gives you insight into diagnostics and the most recent maintenance done to the vehicle. The most efficient vehicle is the one that is up to date on all types of maintenance and addresses problems immediately, using this software you can ensure a long life for your vehicle.

And one of the biggest benefits of it, is the ability to track your driver and the behavior. Your vehicle can be in tip-top shape but with a reckless driver the risk of insurance costs, damaged goods, and wasted time it can all be for nothing.

You can exercise complete control of your enterprise. By being able to locate where vehicles are, how employees work, and maintenance issues whenever they arise you can mitigate costs and use the most beneficial and productive measure to ensure your businesses success.

Why You Might Need This

Now that you see what it can do, you need to figure out if you need it. Here area couple of questions you can ask yourself. Do you have a fleet of vehicles and want to optimize costs for your company? Do you need to track employees after you’ve had a couple of problems with vehicle accidents? Do you want to be able to track goods more efficiently?

If you answered yes to any of these than you should continue reading. If you’re still unsure if it’s worth it, let’s go over some types of companies that use it and if you are in competition with any of them than you’ll see if it’s beneficial to stay up to date with your competitors.

Who uses it

Medical equipment transportation, delivery services, and service providers all use a vehicle tracking software. Medical equipment transportation uses the software in order to ensure that the precious cargo, in forms of very expensive equipment, does not get damaged in the process of transporting. While delivery services benefit from knowing that their drivers deliver packages undamaged and on time. And finally service providers need to know that their drivers are as efficient as possible when they either install or fix something in a customer’s home. This knowledge is immensely beneficial for the employer to know about their business.

Now that you see some types of competitors that utilize it let’s see the companies that provide the software.

Who Offers It?

This is will create quite a diverse list of companies that offer vehicle tracking services. There are a few companies that consistently find their software topping best-of lists. Let’s synthesize some of them for you here with some pros and cons.

Verizon Networkfleet is constantly on top of the lists. They offer high readability, customizable reports  and very easy to use software. The drivers however can see the information which might cause them to adjust their practices without actually benefiting your business.

Fleetistics is able to give you accurate information between vehicles. The information is easily presented and very easy to track. The one con here is that drivers can access and therefore possibly tamper the evidence.

NexTraq gives you an interactive map, great customer service, and easy tracking. The only negative thing is that it doesn’t provide you with fault codes on your vehicles.

The cost of all of these services will vary among providers and the specific items that you need to come along with it. There are a few things you need to consider. There will be a startup fee, cancellation fee, price per vehicle per month, and installation costs. With all things consider it can cost anywhere from $30.00 to over $900.00. The price will vary according to your needs.

While you won’t find a completely free vehicle tracking software company you can utilize some free demos to see if it’s right for you. For instance Fleet Manager by GPDTrackit, Fleet Commander by Agile Access Control, and Manager Plus all offer a free demo. If anything you can give the software a demo to see if it’s worth keeping and how it impacts your productivity.

Vehicle tracking software can provide immense insight into your business and what you can do to improve it, for those reasons you might consider looking into finding the right software for your company and it’s needs.
